Supportive Alumni Speak Volumes
Alumni are products of your school. Their continued support after they have gone speaks volumes about their experiences there. Alumni can be great spokespersons for your school especially when they attribute success in later life in part to the instruction they received at the school. Ask them to speak to students about their experiences, accomplishments, or special interests. Alumni who have achieved personal or professional recognition can serve as role models and mentors. We often forget that the celebrated author, brave astronaut, or talented sports figure was once a child sitting in a classroom reading a book or learning multiplication tables. Alumni can give motivation and inspiration to the children, especially those in disadvantaged situations.
Include alumni in your schoolâs mail-outs. If alumni live in the community, invite them to attend school events. Encourage alumni who no longer live in the area to keep apprised of what is happening at the school or district through the schoolâs website, Facebook, or Twitter. Communicate with them about major initiatives, news about other alumni, reunions, and school events that occur around holidays when they may be in the area visiting family. Solicit comments about alumniâs positive experiences in the school and ask for permission to use these statements in your promotion pieces.
